I'm still hungry.
After five solid days of training from sun up to sundown in the gorgeous, yet unrelenting desert of Tucson, AZ, I woke up this morning hungry for more.
All of the campers ready to roll out for a 135 mi. + bike ride on Day 2 of Camp.
The plan for this year was to forgo any Spring marathons, (AKA, Boston), and devote every moment to triathlon, and large part of that commitment was once again attending my coach's triathlon camp in Tucson, TeamHPB Spring Smash Camp. I had done most of the workouts at my first two outings at her camp in 2013 and 2018, but this one promised a handful of new ones that I had yet to attempt, and therefore tipped the scales from excited to nervous.
My coach Hillary Biscay, (standing), giving us the camp kick-off speech before our first workout on Thursday afternoon, a 10,000 yard swim, alongside our other coach, Alyssa Godesky, (seated).
Throughout the entire nine hour drive from LA to Tucson last Wednesday, my nerves were standing straight up in attention wide-eyed and willing to take on every workout ahead of me starting on Thursday afternoon until mid-day Monday. However, during the many hours I drove along the 10 freeway I had no idea that so much magic beyond swimming, biking, and running would be what truly enriched my weekend, but once I crossed the threshold of Casita 15, my new home away from home for the next week, every expectation for camp I had been constricting with a death grip since December disappeared.
My roommates for the week, Eleanor Mullen, Kat Zeiler, and Alysha Krall before and after our 135+ bike ride on Day 2 of camp.
I knew I was where I needed to be, with the people I needed to be with in order to embrace my place within the mini-cosmos of Triathlon, and humanity in general.
Stay tuned.....
Since I need to drive home today, (see loooooong driving time above), I won't have time to properly share the nitty-gritty of camp, so come on back next Tuesday!!
In the mean time, please enjoy this new song from Rob Thomas, One Less Day.
