I flew on two planes yesterday.
Today I rode/floated on a ferry to reach the final destination for this Summer’s grand adventure, the reason that I rode 180-miles over twelve hours four weeks ago, to crew for my friend and teammate, Heidi, during her 36-Hour Bike event at the Washington Island Ultra Relay.
Flying may sound nuts right now, but wait until you hear how Heidi and her friend and fellow racer, Kevin, traveled to Wisconsin from Northern Arizona, by mini-van. Yep. They headed east toward Wisconsin on four wheels, while my friend, fellow crew member, and Heidi’s coach, Mary, and I left by plane from Los Angeles early Monday morning. Mary and I arrived in Green Bay at 3P on Monday afternoon, meanwhile Heidi and Kevin rolled into Green Bay at 8:45A to pick us up Tuesday morning.
Coach, athlete, and best friends, Mary and Heidi, reunited this morning in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Next, Mary took over at the wheel of the mini-van, and we drove north two and half hours to then board the ferry that whisked us off to the island of misfit races.

There are nearly zero races happening anywhere in the world right now, but somehow this race is still ON! The race organizers have reformatted the transition area to make it COVID compliant, and masks are required from start to finish for crew and spectators. Also, it will all be outside, of course, so I feel pretty good about it. Plus, I know from watching Heidi’s diligent, and many, many months in the making prep for this event, (both from a distance, and up close), that she is ready to face this huge feat, and I am honored to be able to witness her conquer it in person.
Furthermore, I am excited for the chance to cheer on a few of my other Smashfest Queen teammates as they compete in the Triathlon relay.
It will be an exhausting week for all of us, but I am thrilled to be a part of it, and I look forward to sharing how it all went down next week!
Stay tuned…
The song and video choice this week is a fitting tune for how I felt boarding a plane yesterday.:)
