Great news!! My dental hygienist’s brother turns thirty today! Oh, and I turn Forty-FUN on Thursday. #BirthdayWeek.
More importantly, THANK YOU to all of you who have donated to my solo DIY iron(WO)man event, Taryn’s Iron Journey From The Valley To The Sea, I am thrilled and honored to have your support. For any others who want to donate to my fundraiser benefiting the Michael Fox Foundation For Parkinson's Research, please CLICK HERE:
Also, feel free, or rather PLEASE do share the link far and wide to all of the fab folks in your inner circle who want to help create a cure for Parkinson’s, and who may be keen to cheer on a tall middle-aged redhead who displays her love for people she cares about by sweating and smiling all day long swimming, riding, and running across the Los Angeles basin.
On location in Camarillo shooting my IGTV show, "Taryn's Triathlon Time" last Friday, where I was explaining the bike course. It's AWESOME!
In other fun news this week, tomorrow night, 9/16, my husband, Marion, may become a two-time Emmy winner.
The Emmy nominee and his biggest fan, our Weim, Blueberry.
Naturally, this year is much different than two years ago. We aren’t going anywhere. In fact for a while there I thought I would be watching the awards solo, because Marion is back working on set on his *new show,* and even though they are shooting somewhere in Los Angeles, I didn’t think they’d wrap in time for him to make it home to catch the broadcast, but the horrible smoky air quality is throwing a wrench in their production days, so maybe he’ll be here in person? TBD.
If any of you are interested to watch the Creative Arts Emmys broadcast, (bless you), it starts at 5P on www.emmys.com, and Marion’s category is Outstanding Special Visual Effects for Lost In Space.
I do wish we could have another red carpet experience, they’re hilarious, and actually very grounding in my opinion, it’s like grown-up prom, but what I will miss most is the car service Netflix provides. I always appreciate an opportunity to not drive in LA traffic, and not worry about parking. Plus, the feeling of being whisked away on a whim is very Fairytale-esque, and not at all our everyday reality, which is fun to step away from that once in a while. Oh well, this year will be special, too, and thankfully parking will not be an issue.
In very sad news, our state, or more accurately, the western part of our country is on fire. Which on its own is tragic, but the dangerous, wide-spreading smoke is a real bother.
The POV from my Jeep on Sunday night.
Last week I was brutally shamed to start paying attention to the hourly Air Quality Index, (AQI), in order to curb any strenuous outdoor activity that is harmful to my respiratory system. I appreciated the sentiment, but the delivery was harsh.
Obviously, I *should* spend a lot of time outside right now swimming, riding, and running because I am in full-ironman training mode, and gaining decent fitness, but I suppose the timing for any apocalypse is never ideal?
Still, I am nothing if not a “Solution Seeker,” so I have already spent one Saturday spinning on my training for 7.5 hours, and scheduled the time and location for my swims and runs around Moderate AQI readings, AKA, early mornings so far this week.
Hence, why the blog is late today.
I will keep that trend going indefinitely, because it is never a good idea to skimp on ironman training, every workout is important, and the day is too long and tough to play around with, so regardless of the current crappy conditions in SoCal, I will let the AQI guide me to safer air in order to stay on track and execute every workout until my event on November 8th.
If that means another loooong/Zen day on the trainer, I’m all for it!
The start of a verrry long bike ride last Saturday.
For reference, below are the two websites I have been using to follow the AQI:
AQICN.org
&
Airnow.gov
And, for those of you who are curious how I spent those hours on Saturday pedaling away indoors, besides watching watts, I watched the amazing Netflix docuseries, Down To Earth.
I had already watched it once, but I caught a whole lot more the second time around. It was fitting timing because it centers on the environment, and that is at the top of my mind right now. Also, I am a big fan of the hosts. Zac Efron, (he reminds me of my brother, Bo), and Darin Olien, a super-food hunter, Vegan, and author of the excellent book, Superlife.
I read this book last month, it is incredible!!

Finally, something else I want to share with all of you that was the highlight of last week, was finishing the edit for the movie of my friend, teammate, and fellow Biscay Coaching colleague, Alyssa Godesky’s capturing of the 46 High Peaks Fastest Known Time Women’s record in the Adirondacks of New York.
Alyssa is center frame in the Smashfest Queen outfit, surrounded by her heroic crew/camera operator's.:)
I was not on location to shoot the footage, but her crew grabbed some great shots that I was able to add a voice over of Alyssa explaining the FKT attempt that I recorded last year in Madison, WI, which I believe tied together the narrative of her epic feat.

Alright, I think that will do it! Whew! So much information... Oh, one more thing… The song and video choice this week is a lovely, end of Summer themed tune from Owl City, Fireflies.
