Saturday’s will be the toughest day to post a blog. I usually ride long on Saturday’s, (4-6 hours), and the rides typically start at 8A in Malibu, an hour’s drive south/west from my house in glorious Granada Hills. Since I loathe being late, but value my morning routine of journaling and reading above all else, I’ve made it a habit to be up and out early to meet my friends, (or even if it’s a solo date with PCH and the ocean), on time. Every Saturday.
Long Ride starting line, PCH and Webb Way.
However, I assume that Saturday’s are brimming with fun and craziness for all of you, too, including family obligations, errands, sleeping in, watching sports, playing sports, and probably doing exactly what I am, riding looong outside for most of the day. Therefore, on the seventh day of the week, I plan to keep these posts brisk and brief.
What I’d like to do today is share a few podcast episodes and book recommendations to help launch you into the weekend.
The Rich Roll Podcast, hosted by the exceptional multi-hyphenate, Rich Roll. I listen to all of his podcasts, but I enjoyed and learned a ton from these two episodes:
Robby Balenger Interview - Robby is a plant-based athlete who ran across the country.
The Ironwomen Podcast, Hosted by the amazing Pro Triathletes, Alyssa Godesky and Haley Chura. I am a longtime fan of this podcast, but this recent episode stirred up my appetite for adventure. It’s a fun one.
Emily Ford Interview: The first woman to through hike the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin.
The Yogi Triathlete Podcast, I love everything about the dynamic duo, Jess and BJ Gumkowski, who host this podcast, as well as coach endurance athletes and teach yoga and meditation practices, and are wonderful human beings. Their guests and topics are varied and always engrossing, but the following episode was a show-stopper in my opinion.
Tim Deboom Interview: Two-time Ironman World Championship winner.
We are all born creative, but it is up to us what to do with our creativity. This lively and invigorating book from Elizabeth Gilbert encourages opening up the door to engage with our hidden or bursting creative selves.
This book will make you think about what you really need to live a contented life. It resonated with me before the pandemic, but now it packs a deeper punch.
I hope you all enjoy your Saturday, and if you have an extra few sips of coffee left in your cup, check out a sneak peak of some RACE news that I will reveal more about tomorrow.
The song and video choice today is one I picked because the video was shot in one of the tunnels in Malibu Canyon that I drive through every Saturday en route from the valley to the sea, the huge late 90's hit from The Goo Goo Dolls, Iris.
