“Will you make sure that I am up at 6A every morning?” Marion asked me a few minutes ago while holding a steaming cup of coffee as I was making our bed.
“Sure.” I replied.
“What?”
“Do you know how many times you’ve asked me to do that? And how many times I have woken you up at 6A over the past seventeen years? The real question you need to ask yourself is what will make you get out of bed at 6A in the morning?”
I have been a human alarm clock since my teen years when my sister Mary first asked me to wake her up in the morning before school. Then during college, I earned the nickname “Time Cop” from my sister Sarah, and best friend Emily, because I assumed the role of making sure we started our commute on time to our Summer job as camp counselors.
During my stint as a production assistant, *one* of my character building tasks was to stand next to the crew trucks at the end of twelve-hour plus days holding a clipboard and staring at my watch in order to keep time when they clocked out; each six minutes was a point, points meant more money in their pockets, which meant more money out of the budget, i.e great for the crew, bad for production. Therefore, my presence was meant to keep them moving and not wasting precious time and money that the production needed to create a quality show. I was not very popular during that part of the day.
And then came the FANtastic years of waking Hannah up for school in the morning.
Good times.
In essence, I appreciate the value of time, and have no issue waking up early (6A is not early, BTW), because I know what gets me out of bed in the morning.
Do you?
The song and video choice this week is a classic from my girl Kelly Clarkson. Enjoy.:)
