I need a nap. I keep writing, deleting, and re-writing theme after theme of this week’s post, and nothing is hitting the mark. There is so much to share. A lot happened last week. Good, great, scary, awful, and amazing moments were lived, survived, and enjoyed, but honestly, I just don’t have the bandwidth to verbally dissect them all right now.
However, I would love to share some highlights:
On Thursday morning I achieved my best time ever on my favorite local climb, the Santa Susana Pass, during a hill repeat workout. I give full credit for the extra push to my friend and teammate, Mary Knott, who was literally over my shoulder rooting me on.
I read, or more accurately, took a class in Russian Literature led by the acclaimed author and Professor at Syracuse, George Saunders, by reading his incredible book, A Swim In A Pond In The Rain. It is by far the best book I have read this year, and is now one of my all-time favorites.
I ran a treadmill workout on Thursday.
Such occasions may seem mundane for most, but are always a life highlight for me.
Speaking of running, I tested out my post-long ride run fitness during a 10-mile run "brick" workout on Saturday. *I do not have photo evidence of this mystical workout, but the run felt good, and was executed nearly exactly how I hoped it would be.*
In "not-so" awesome news, we had to rush our dog Blue to the hospital(s) on Thursday night (the third one finally had room to admit her) because she was displaying signs of bloat. It was scary, but she is fine, and although that late-night driving escapade was frustrating, now we have options.
Next, in "amazingly" AWESOME news, my step-daughter, Hannah, came over on Sunday night to play Dominoes with us for the second Sunday in a ROW!
*This highlight trumps them ALL. Always. Quality time spent with Hannah lives in a whole other dimension.*
Finally, I completed my last doozy of a long day of training before Ironman St. George on Monday, which included a morning run packed with miles and steep elevation, a refreshing midday swim, and then an evening romp around our neighborhood.
And that will do it… I hope to be more lively next Tuesday, and promise to at least include some final thoughts and details about the quickly approaching event of the Spring Season, Ironman St. George. (May 7th).
In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy this final week of April, 2022, and will take a few minutes to watch and listen to this new tune and quirky video from One Direction’s standout graduate, Harry Styles, As It Was.
