I’m eating a lot of Peanut Butter these days. A proven, (and my favorite), way to get rid of hiccups is to eat a teaspoon of Peanut Butter. Although, I haven’t had the hiccups recently, I am just eating Peanut Butter because I didn’t for a long time, and it’s delicious.
I usually eat Almond Butter.
Almond Butter has been my “go-to” nut butter for years, both because of its optimal nutritional value over Peanut Butter, and because I love everything about it; the taste, meatiness, crunchiness, slippery fattiness, earthiness, all of it.
A typical post-long workout lunch, Almond Butter and Raspberry jelly sandwich, green smoothie, salty chips, fruit, and a glass of sparkling water and SisterShrub.
I made the switch between butters half a dozen years ago when I started to identify with Almond Butter’s natural, gritty vibe, vs. Peanut Butter’s easy, sugary perfection. I appreciated Almond Butter’s ingenuity, and was bored with Peanut Butter’s laziness, or rather neediness to satisfy everyone vs. challenge anyone.
I steered away from Peanut Butter’s consistent, warm embrace because it seemed too good to be true. I was baffled by how it could give and not take? How is it smooth, even when it’s crunchy? How it never pleads to be more, and is simply pleased with being enough?
Any amount will do.
A nibble, a tablespoon, or a heaping mound brimming over a slice of bread, it is ready and able for any occasion, in any location, during the middle of the week, or on vacation.
It’s also lethal for some, and not sexy, or surprising enough for others, so I suppose it isn’t the world’s most perfect food, but it may be mine.
After last Sunday's long run.
Still, even though Peanut Butter is pleasing, unselfish, and doesn’t demand tedious attention like Almond Butter, gulping down a jarful is not the best idea, but banishing it isn’t brilliant either.
I want to enjoy the grit and ease of both butters.
I may want one more than the other more often, but I need them both.
Underwater last November.
I am better with both.
Either with their lids sealed on, or popped off, my aim is to keep each option of life fuel always within reach.
The song and video choice this week is a tune most of you will recognize from some movie or TV soundtrack that made your heart swoon, but I doubt you’ll know the name of the group, or any of their other songs. Nevertheless, this one is special. Yazoo’s, Only You.
