I only need a sliver,
on the side of our bed to sleep soundly.
Most nights,
I am pushed to the edge by my husband or dog,
feeling them breathe and rattle peacefully,
or violently,
against my chest,
all night long.
Suddenly,
soothing lightness from the opening sky seeps underneath my eyelids.
No matter which way my head is turned, or how tired, or still, my body still feels,
I am awake.
Ready.
Somehow,
for whatever comes next.
Grateful for all of it,
because every night I get to have a sliver of the best of it.
I was inspired to mix up my writing this week after reading Jenny Slate's charming, weird, and wonderful book, Little Weirds over the weekend.
It's an odd, warm dip into the heart of a lovely and hilarious woman/comedian/actress/writer who doesn't feel the need to explain her feelings through her writing, she just expresses them. And today, with so much, (too much), upheaval going on all over the world, that I cannot explain, I chose my favorite and easiest way to express how I feel about it, poetry.
I hope you all have a wonderful week, hug as many people and life forms that you can wrap your arms around, drink water, (skip the Kool Aid), wake up, and step into the sunshine.
The song and video choice this week is a very special version of a song that reemerged in my life last week, it's incredible, and surprisingly quite fitting for the theme of the blog this week. Enjoy.
